Start With How Your Premises Work
We focus on offices, factories, warehouses, schools and other business premises. The same camera or access reader can be useful in one location and unsuitable in another, so the building’s use comes before the equipment list.
A clear project brief records what needs protecting, who needs access and what happens when a fault or incident occurs. It should also identify the people who need to review the proposal, from facilities and IT to an insurer or fire risk assessor.
Connected Systems, Clear Responsibilities
Our scope covers CCTV installation and maintenance, staff access control, visitor door entry, intruder alarms, monitoring and automatic gates. Each has a different role, and any connection between systems needs to be defined and tested.
Your enquiry may be passed to a suitable local security firm with your agreement. Before commissioning work, confirm the proposed contractor, scope, relevant competence, any required certification, contract terms and responsibility for ongoing support.
Standards Belong In The Specification
CCTV specifications should consider relevant parts of BS EN 62676. Intruder alarms may require PD 6662, the BS EN 50131 series and BS 8243, depending on the risk and response arrangement.
Controlled doors need to fit the fire risk assessment and safe escape requirements. Powered gates require a separate safety assessment and appropriate documentation for the complete installation.
These references describe the work to be specified. Ask the proposed contractor to confirm the current applicable standards and supply any evidence required by your organisation or insurer.
A Useful Handover
Ask for the system layout, operating guidance, account ownership and maintenance requirements to be recorded. Staff should be able to carry out everyday tasks, recognise a fault and understand who is responsible for the next step.
Explore our buying questions or tell us about your project. Include any existing specification so it can be considered from the outset.
